Know What to Look for in a Personal Watercraft (PWC)
Personal watercrafts (PWCs) range from stand-up models all the way up to cruisers that can hold as many as four riders. Stand-up personal watercrafts are for the ultimate thrill-seeker. They are highly maneuverable and light, so you’ll find those riding these models to be racing, jumping waves and catching air, or burying them into impossibly tight turns. The larger cruiser PWC models are like waterborne Cadillacs that can tow skiers and take your family on extended cruises in comfort.
Pay attention to personal watercraft ergonomics. You basically stay in one position most of the time when you ride, magnifying PWC design flaws. You want to feel like the PWC is an extension of your body. Adjustable handlebars should match your height and allow you to stand up in comfort and stretch or take a wave without getting pounded.
A lot of new engines, like 4-strokes and direct-injected 2-strokes, are more rider/bystander-friendly with reduced noise level and no exhaust smell. Instead of pure speed, look for a PWC with good stability and handling.
